Berikbol Dukeyev is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Nazarbayev University. A trained political scientist, Dr. Dukeyev’s research focuses on memory politics, vernacular politics, and micropolitics, with an emphasis on Central Asia. His work has been published in prestigious journals (Q1) such as Globalizations, Nationalities Papers, and Problems of Post-Communism, among others. Berikbol holds a Ph.D. in Politics and International Relations from the Australian National University.
Prior to his position at Nazarbayev University, Dr. Dukeyev gained nearly a decade of experience in academia, think tanks, and international organizations in Kazakhstan and beyond. He has served as a Sessional Academic at the Australian National University (Canberra), a Research Facilitator at SDU University (Qaskelen), and a Teaching Fellow at Narikbayev University (Astana). Additionally, he has worked at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan (Astana) and on the USAID-funded Comparative Trade and Jobs Project in Central Asia.
Dr. Dukeyev has also been a Research Fellow at the Central Asia Program of The George Washington University (USA) and the Georg Eckert Institute (Germany). He has served as a Trainer & Mentor for the Oxus Society for Central Asian Affairs and as a Junior China Fellow at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. His research is supported by Nazarbayev University, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of Kazakhstan (as part of a research team), the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, SDU University, and the Australian National University, among others. Dr. Dukeyev has appeared in media outlets such as the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Diplomat, The Jamestown Foundation, The China Project, and OpenDemocracy, among others, as well as in various Kazakh- and Russian-language media outlets.
