Professional Information

Dr. Charles Surya received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester in the USA. His research interest focuses on optoelectronic materials and devices including photovoltaics and photodetectors.

Professor Surya had published over 200 papers in the field of solid-state materials and devices. He joined the Electronic and Information Engineering Department of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994. From 2007 to 2010 he served as the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. From 2010 to 2012 he served as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Since 2013 he was appointed Clarea Au Endowed Professor in Energy at the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering.

Professor Surya joined Nazarbayev University in August 2017 as the Dean of the School of Engineering.

Dr. Surya served as the Chairman of the IEEE Electron Devices Society, Hong Kong Chapter, in 1997 and 2013. He has been serving as the Chair of the Optoelectronic Devices Technical Committee of IEEE Electron Devices Society and an Editor of the Journal Electron Devices Society.
