Research interests
Dr. Mehdi Bagheri holds an academic background and extensive professional experience in the field of electrical and computer engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Energy, Power Systems and High Voltage, from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia.
During his academic journey, Dr. Bagheri has collaborated with renowned laboratories such as the Electric Machinery and Motor Drive, and Power Electronics laboratories at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He also engaged in a close partnership with Rolls-Royce Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, working on a joint project that demonstrated his practical application of knowledge.
As a Senior Member of IEEE and an Associate Editor for prestigious journals, Dr. Bagheri actively contributes to the scholarly community. He is also a member of professional organizations, including PES (Power & Energy Society), IES (Industrial Electronics Society), and DEIS (Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society) within IEEE. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he received the Scopus Award in 2022. Dr. Bagheri has successfully led and participated as a Principal Investigator (PI) and co-PI in various projects. Additionally, he is a member of the National Research Council of Kazakhstan. With his comprehensive knowledge in power engineering, Dr. Bagheri is involved in advanced testing and commissioning of power transformers, cables, and switchgear. He also provides consultancy services to multinational companies, encompassing areas such as power products manufacturing, strategic relationship management, high voltage engineering, smart grid and smart city initiatives, dynamic wireless charging of electric vehicles, condition monitoring of power equipment, and sustainable energy systems analysis and development.
Dr. Bagheri has conducted over 50 industrial training short courses for esteemed organizations in the oil, gas, petrochemical, cement, steel, and power plant sectors.
His research interests span a wide range of subjects, including high voltage engineering, wireless power transfer, condition monitoring and assessment, diagnosis in power systems for off- and onshore, space and marine applications, electrical rotating machines, transient phenomena in power systems, electrical insulation, power quality, smart grid and city technologies, demand response, and smart energy systems.
