Dr Chan was trained as a clinical dietitian from King’s College, London. She has a strong background in nutrition education and research, with expertise including, chronic diseases treatment and management, specifically cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. She obtained her PhD from National University of Singapore, School of Medicine.

As a course leader, she led the design of a postgraduate public health nutrition programme in UK. She is an experienced academic who has broad experience in the co-ordination and administration of HE duties including accreditation, monitoring postgraduate students’ progression, marketing and research ethics.  She looks forward to working with staff and students in NUSOM to ensure that we meet global standards and to enhance our students’ learning experience.

Her vision is that food security is for all.  There should be culturally appropriate, delicious, equitable and inclusive food experience for all people living in Kazakhstan. She works with healthcare professionals, education providers and professional bodies to enhance nutrition capacity and to train food and nutrition researchers to meet today’s global health challenges. She is passionate about promoting clinical nutrition education. She has attracted over half a Million USD in research funding from government bodies, non-government organizations (NGOs) and philanthropic foundations.

Research interests

Role of dietary intake & health status of Central Asians- Forging strategic partnerships with relevant government, NGOs and food industries: to evaluate existing scientific evidence and to translate into policies and product messaging; Clinical nutrition intervention studies; Behavioral effects of eating and Personalized nutrition interventions based on nutrient-gene interactions.
