Yerkin Abdildin graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, USA) with a PhD in Industrial Engineering. He received his Master of Computer Science degree from UIUC in 2008. Prof. Abdildin taught multi-disciplinary courses compulsory for students majoring in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Civil, Materials Science, and Aerospace Engineering at UIUC (https://www.illinois.edu/) for 3 years and was listed in the “List of teachers ranked as excellent by their students” (Spring, 2012).

Prof. Abdildin joined the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences at Nazarbayev University in December, 2014. Since then, he successfully supervised PhD (1), MSc (1), MEM (3), and BEng (20) students. 

Prof. Abdildin also leads SolidWorks certification at Nazarbayev University. As of February 13, 2024: 263 of NU students became Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) and 23 Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) titleholders.

Prof. Abdildin developed and edited the Guidelines for BEng in Mechanical Engineering (2015) and guided the 1st two cohorts of Nazarbayev University graduates in 2015 and 2016. Some of them continue their studies at PhD programs in the USA. At Nazarbayev University, he also developed and taught several new courses, such as: Advanced Statistics and Probability, Applied Statistics and Probability, Computer Aided Design, Research Project, Decision Models. 

As a member of the MSc Committee (since 2016), he also developed Master of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program (2018) and served as a member of the MAE Department's PhD Admission Committee and MSc Admission Committee. Prof. Abdildin is currently the member of the Research Committee and the Coordinator of the Industry Committee at MAE. He is a member (MILT) of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT, https://www.ciltinternational.org/) and IEEE.

His research has been published in journals like Energy, International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy, American Journal of Emergency Medicine, Frontiers in Medicine, Acute and Critical Care, Pain Management, Clinical Physiology and Functional Imaging, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, World Neurosurgery, Journal of Clinical Medicine, Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, Lasers in Medical Science, Diagnostics, International Journal of Medical Informatics, and other academic outlets.

Current activities

Prof. Abdildin and his students are working on a decision analysis model for transporting and monitoring critically ill patients together with the National coordination center for emergency medicine and other organizations, as well as DA model for determining the best locations for wind farms in Kazakhstan.

Another ongoing project is about the university-industry partnership in Kazakhstan.

Other projects include statistical analysis of biomedical studies on various topics together with medical experts from Kazakhstan and Europe.
