Research interests

Dr. Zumrad Kataeva is an Associate Professor of Higher Education at the Graduate School of Education, Nazarbayev University. Her research lies at the intersection of social justice and equity, with a particular focus on gender equality, the academic profession, and higher education policy. Her current project on gender, climate change, and higher education transformation examines how gender equality is embedded in climate change initiatives at universities across Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Dr. Kataeva is an Associate Editor of Gender, Work & Organization, a leading international journal in gender and critical organizational studies. Through her scholarship, she seeks to amplify voices from underrepresented contexts and advance the decolonization of knowledge production in higher education research. Her recent co-edited volume, Gender and Education in Central Asia (Palgrave Macmillan), and forthcoming edited book, Higher Education in Central Asia (Palgrave Macmillan), reflect her ongoing commitment to centering underrepresented perspectives and expanding conversations in global higher education scholarship.
