Project Description

The city of Al Ain and surroundings are one of the main growing urbanization areas where
from mass to jointed weak carbonate rocks taken place in Abu Dhabi Emirate. Those rocks
commonly seen at the surface or at depth where foundations of buildings and infrastructure
constructed in the region. Because of that, investigation of these jointed weak rocks and then
suggestion of bearing capacity chart (BCC) based on common rock properties are very
crucial for both time and cost manner. The aim of the project is to development of bearing
capacity chart by utilizing the Geological Strength Index (GSI). To do so, database including
intact and mass rock properties will be established by conducting laboratory and field studies.
Accordingly, it will be used for developing the bearing capacity chart for carbonate rocks as
a function of GSI and relevant rock properties.
