Project Description

Building Information Modeling (BIM) can play significant role in better management of building facilities. However, none of the existing buildings have a BIM model except few recently constructed buildings. Research in creating BIM model for existing buildings is at its infancy and it is evident from current literature that generating BIM model for existing building is complex, tedious, time consuming and costly. The objective of this project is to explore potential barriers and opportunities in constructing BIM model for existing buildings. The project also involves identification of shapes and joints of building components that will facilitate automatic generation of BIM model for existing buildings.
