Project Description

In this project, it is proposed to develop a novel concept for an autonomous skid-steering based multipurpose hospital mobile robot-manipulation platform for automating a set of routine hospital tasks. The low overall cost of the proposed system will be achieved by using a modular approach where a universal skid-steered 4x4 mobile robot platform, providing very high maneuverability including in-spot 360 degrees rotation, will be designed for carrying a robot torso, equipped with a standard lightweight commercial robot-manipulator for realization of frequent hospital tasks such as medical supply restocking, remote patient temperature measurement, telepresence and/or pathogen detection. As an alternative, the designed mobile robot platform can be used for carrying an automatic cabinet for food and/or drug delivery purposes augmented with an ultraviolet light lamb, installed on the cabinet top for performing hospital space disinfection operation.
