Project Description

The overall goal of the cluster "Infectious triggers of chronic autoimmunity in Spondyloarthropathy " (CITAS) is to provide a better understanding of disease pathology of Spondyloarthritis (SpA) - with a focus on open issues relevant to Kazakhstan - to promote the development of new therapeutic and diagnostic avenues for SpA patients. Although a relatively rare disease, SpA is the prototype of an autoimmune disease due to the well-understood genetic contribution by the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) B27 locus. In addition, one of the triggers linked to SpA pathogenesis – the zoonotic infectious disease Brucellosis - is endemic in Kazakhstan.
