Abstract

This article examines the intertextual image of Catherine the Great
in G. P. Danilevskii’s Mirovich (1879), which is composed of a series of historical
and literary citations. The portrayal of historical actors in a number of episodes
relies heavily on E. R. Dashkova’s memoirs, while descriptions of Catherine in
the novel depend largely on her official image, which was formed by G. P. Derzhavin’s
cycle of «Felitsa» odes.
