All-optical microwave oscillations and pulsating dynamics in laser diodes with short external cavity

Abstract

The high frequency dynamics of laser diodes with short external cavity (EC) was analyzed. It was shown that stable all-optical microwave and nearly harmonic signals were generated in low α semiconductor lasers. These stable harmonic or pulsating outputs for short EC lasers present new applications of laser diodes in all-optical signal handling.
