Abstract
The oral historical tradition is the main basis for preserving the national memory of the Kazakhs. Heroic and lyrical epics, historical songs and legends, tales and myths are the genres of folklore. The article studies the genre of historical songs of the 19th century, especially songs dedicated to popular movements against Russian colonial policy in the Kazakh steppe. The author analyzed the artistic images of the leaders of the uprising, on the example of Kenesary and Nauryzbay.
