Abstract

Three case studies illustrate key issues developed in this book. The first one deals with the design and simulation of a process for the thermal hydrodealkylation of toluene. This classical example concentrates on the essential teaching issues of process synthesis and integration for processes with reaction, separation and recycle. A special feature is the study of the plantwide control strategy. The second case study deals with product development and process design for manufacturing glycerol tert-butyl ether, which is a combustion enhancer of motor fuels. The third case study handles an advanced subject in process intensification, the production of biodiesel by the esterification of fatty acids with methanol in a reactive (DWC). The above cases are supported by computer simulation in both steady-state and dynamic modes.
