Abstract
Realistic virtual environments within which behavioral responses to stimulus can be evaluated offer new opportunities for the Internet delivery of electronic rehabilitation exercises to homes of elderly patients with memory problems. This paper presents the development of a computer-based therapeutic tool based on this technology. The approach, framework as well as considerations for implementations are discussed. The proposed prototype system consists of modular computer-aided exercises using both virtual telephone and a computerinterfaced prosthesis. Feasibility and usability studies indicated that with further refinements and improvements, the proposed prototype system could be suitable for home-based rehabilitation of elderly patients with memory problems under the supervision of trained caregivers.
