Abstract
The dynamics of light fields counterpropagating (CP) in a saturable self-focusing medium was discussed. In this regard, the instabilities experienced by conterpropagating solitons were analyzed. It was observed that due to different boundary conditions, solitons in photorefractive media behaved differently in counterpropagating geometry than in copropagating geometry. The counterpropagating solitons consisting of two fundamental beams became unstable, when the medium exceeded a certain length.
