Abstract

Biology inspires mechatronics for the development of mechanisms that are similar in many aspects with a living organism. Nature has to give various alternatives for most, if not for every, technical problem. In this work a novel mechanism, based on the spinal column of vertebrate animals, is presented to address specific industrial application needs. Moreover, the multilayered control scheme developed and the use of standard industrial grade control modules make the specific system suitable for demanding industrial needs, like spray enameling of sanitary ware products.
