Abstract

In this study, it has been intended to research geomechanical properties of Kızılyer (Denizli) gypsum and dolomites. For this purpose, properties of rock mass which is formed as a result of intercalation of dolomites and gypsum in Kızılyer and surroundings have been examined by performing laboratory tests. By defining 5 different levels from gypsum to dolomites in the field, blocks taken in each level have been used for sampling in the study. After the blocks are brought into the laboratory and samples appropriate for standards are prepared; uniaxial compression, Brazilian tensile strength, dry and saturated unit weights, Schmidt hammer rebound, water absorption by weight, sonic wave velocity, slake durability index tests have been performed in accordance with related standards. Collected data have been interpreted by considering petro-graphical and geo-mechanical properties of the rocks. Additionally, basic statistical relationships between some rock parameters have been developed. It is concluded that these empirical relations between the related rock parameters could be valid for similar types of rocks and it has to be applied cautiously.
