Abstract
In order to investigate geomechanical properties of travertine in Antalya region, common travertine property testing was conducted on two type of travertine samples collected from two different quarries; Korkuteli and Elmalı (their commercial name are Adelya and Sleeping Dragon respectively) in Antalya. The objective of this paper is to evaluate travertine
properties and comparison of two different travertine types in terms of the commercial usage; such as cladding sidewalls of buildings, in steps of buildings and water pool, other accessories for building. In order to achieve the goal, on the collected travertine samples from the quarries, uniaxial compressive strength, flexural (bending) strength, water absorption and velocity tests were conducted before and after freezing and thawing cycle. After that, database was established for each traver-tine type. In this paper, result of this database was introduced. It is concluded that the Korkuteli (Adelya) travertine has better strength properties and it is stronger and less porous than Elmalı (Sleeping Dragon) traver-tine and has better quality for cladding sidewalls of building.
