Abstract
Nowadays, energy efficiency and its various aspects are quite important than before in marine application. Also in modern cruise ships, energy consumption of hotel load is as crucial as propulsion load and should be permanently provided without even short term interruption. This study has concentrated on hotel lighting load and its harmonic contents influence on marine cast-resin transformer in ship electric system. Advantages and disadvantages of conventional and recent developed lighting systems are debated. Harmonic contents of incandescent, fluorescent, Compact Fluorescent (CF) and Light Emitted Diode (LED) lamps are measured and discussed. THD level of each and every lamp is also calculated. The influence of non-linear load on hot-spot temperature rise of cast-resin transformer is discussed. Finally, distribution cast-resin transformer de-rating and its aging rate under non-sinusoidal condition initiated by lighting load is simulated and influence of each load on transformer is discussed.
