Injection locked semiconductor laser dynamics from large to small detunings

Abstract

The equations for a semiconductor laser subject to injection are examined numerically and analytically from large negative to moderate negative to positive values of the detuning. We concentrate on the stability of the multi-wave mixing regime for low injection rates and find a bifurcation to stable quasi-periodic oscillations. This bifurcation explains the experimentally observed bistability associated with the locking-unlocking transition at high negative detunings. It may also lead to stable quasiperiodic oscillations for moderate values of the detunings which we demonstrate numerically.
