Abstract

The culture of each nation consists of different customs and traditions that characterize only its national characteristics and traits, revealing its national essence. In the modern world, one of the important trends in society is the reluctance to be absorbed in a foreign culture and the fear of losing touch with one's own root tradition.
Kazakh culture has passed the centuries-long very complex and interesting path of development and up to the twentieth century remained nomadic. Living conditions in the steppe were very difficult. Survival and prosperity in the steppe depended on the stamina, strength, health, patience, dexterity and skill of people. Therefore, the main Kazakh traditions and rituals are associated with life, important stages of life and health of people. One of the most important and ancient traditions of the Kazakhs is Zheti Ata. Literally translated means "Seven grandfathers". Zheti Ata is an old tradition, according to which everyone had to know their ancestors until the seventh generation. This tradition has been handed down from generation to generation preserved to this day. What was the significance of this tradition and why did you need to know your seven ancestors? First of all, it was necessary for human health, the continuation of the generation and for the preservation of the nation. The Kazakhs were afraid of incest, the birth of sick children, and in this way they took care of themselves. Secondly, Zheti Ata is not just a collection of names, it is a chronological history of each family, clan and the whole people, arranged over the years. In this article, we will consider the role and significance of the Kazakh tradition of Zheti ata.
