Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The present Chapter presents the basic legislative aspects on the sewage sludge management in European Union and USA. Following the trends in environmental legislation the last 30 years in both continents, sewage sludge management is regulated by a number of legislative tools. Although the positive steps, there is the need for continuous improvement and more intense enforcement. The major gaps identified are the need for limits setting for organic substances and regulations on recycling and final disposal.
