Abstract

This study proposes a novel inspection technique for remote information extraction from electrical insulator surface under complex climate condition using image processing. Experiments conducted on recorded images of snow, ice and water covered insulator. Gabor filtering algorithm is utilized for extracting a set of Gabor phase congruency features from insulator images for the presence or absence of snow, ice and water droplets using minimum distance nearest neighbor classifier.
