Abstract

How far do policies designed to fit circumstances in mainland Britain get implemented in Northern Ireland out of a desire for uniformity? Local authorities in Northern Ireland are responsible for a minute proportion of public expenditure compared with their counterparts in the rest of the United Kingdom, yet they will still be required to undertake competitive tendering.
