Abstract

Magnetic fields in healthy equipment generally assume a symmetrical distribution around the axis of their excitation. The change in symmetry of these fields during a fault condition is investigated. Asymmetry in the leakage flux around a transformer winding due to an inter-turn fault is studied under various fault severity levels. A fault detection technique using leakage flux is developed based on the identified fault indicators.
