Abstract
In this study, the chromium concentrations of atmospheric PM2.5 and PM2.5-10 particles collected during one year period from Buyukcekmece lake basin were evaluated. Yearly average PM2.5, PM 2.5-10 and PM10 chromium concentrations were found 0.099 μg m-3, 0.101 μg m-3 and 0.200 μg m-3, respectively. Seasonal characteristics of each size fraction were studied and their cyclic behaviors were modeled using the Polynominal fit method. Regional and local possible sources of chromium were defined and their effects over the basin were discussed. The most important emission source of the chromium was identified as the cement factory located in the area. The relationships between concentrations and meteorological parameters were investigated and a significant correlation between episodes and inversion level was determined.
