Regular dynamics of low-frequency fluctuations in external cavity semiconductor lasers

Abstract

The dynamics of low-frequency fluctuations (LFF) in external cavity semiconductor lasers on application of optical feedback was studied by means of Lang-Kobayshi (LK) model. Numerical evidence of the existence of specific periodic and quasiperiodic solutions of the LK equations was presented. New external cavity modes (ECM) were detected due to coupling of the single-mode laser with the external cavity. A quasiperiodic bifurcation from these solutions led to the system dynamics with increase in pumping current. The regular periodic solutions were obtained when the feedback level was moderate, pumping current was below solitary threshold and the linewidth enhancement factor was relatively large.
