Relationship between intact and mass rock properties with TBM performance

Abstract

The key parameters in all performance estimation analysis are various intact and mass rock parameters, in particular rock strengths, joints, fractures, foliation, and brittleness. Accurate prediction of Tunnel Boring Machine, (TBM) performance allows for more reliable estimates of project completion times and costs. Using the actual TBM, intact and mass rock property data from a recently completed hard rock TBM project in New York City, USA, correlation of intact and mass rock properties with TBM field data was performed. So, Using commercial Statistical Software, multiple regression analyses was performed and the relationship was developed based on TBM field data, intact and mass rock properties.
