Abstract

A facile additive-free approach of cathode fabrication using a chemical bath deposition route is proposed to grow nickel sulfide nano-architectures on Ni foam at ambient conditions as a flexible electrode for lithium-ion batteries. The hierarchical nanostructure on the electrode surface provided high specific capacities of 437 and 360 mAh/g at current rates of 0.1 and 1.0C after 50cycles respectively, accompanied by Coulombic efficiency of about 100% after only 5 cycles. The designed electrodes offered a faster ion and electron transfer, a larger surface area, and a high degree of structural integrity.
