Abstract

The abstract summarizes key results of the research project on micromechanics of sand production. The research comprised of experimental part, including mechanical tests on samples and sand production experiments, DEM numerical modelling and analytical formulation of sand production prediction. An artificial weak sandstone made of commercial quartz and sodium silicate solution, cemented by CO2 flushing was suggested as a replication of the real rock. A customized High-Pressure Consolidation System was developed to conduct sand production experiments. DEM simulations were run which reproduced perforation and sand production experiments, and the mechanisms at micro scale were analyzed.
