Statistical evaluation of the relationship between Schmidt hardness values and basic physical properties of weak rocks (in Turkish with English Abstract)

Abstract

Physical properties of natural stone are important to investigate the usage purpose of them. From granite through carbonate rocks, various rocks that have different physical and mechanical properties could be used in modern civil construction for both interior and exterior cover and decorates. Most of the natural stones that is operated around the City of Denizli are carbonate rocks that could be classified as weak strong rocks and they have very importance space in natural stone sectors. In this study, various types of travertines, limestone, dolomites and schist were obtained from the operated quarried around the city of Denizli and Antalya, afterward, density, natural and saturated unit weight, water absorption, porosity, fullness rate, Schmidt hardness rebound of rock were investigated using laboratory testing methods. After the establishment of the dataset from average values of the testing results, empirical relationships were obtained between the Schmidt hardness and physical properties of rocks.
