Theory of self-phase-locked optical parametric oscillators

Abstract

The self phase locking between subharmonic waves of an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) induced by resonant nonlinear (OPO)/second harmonic generator (SHG) processes was demonstrated. The minimum threshold of oscillation of these devices was identical to that of the conventional devices. The nonlinear cascading led to a subcritical behavior.
