Clean Energy Policy and Innovation in Kazakhstan

Sponsorship Agreement with Chevron on Sustainable Energy Transition Program

This topic aims to explore national energy innovation systems, policies, and
challenges in Kazakhstan, and maximize the insights for policymaking. Towards this end, we would like to identify and analyze the following:

i) Policy priorities and institutions relevant to clean energy technology and innovation in Kazakhstan;
ii) Challenges and opportunities for Kazakhstan to overcome the significant
hydrocarbon dependence and exploit its clean energy innovation and use
potential;
iii) Capabilities of Kazakhstan to be an integral part of the global and regional
supply/demand chain for clean energy technologies.
The proposal's objectives are to assess Kazakhstan's policy priorities related to
clean energy deployment and innovation, identify the required oversight, and
implement institutional solutions that deliver towards this goal. The analysis
extends into Kazakhstan's clean energy production and innovation potential by considering its resource abundance and its regional importance.
