Project Description
In line with the global importance of attracting and retaining high-quality teachers, and addressing the retention of novice teachers in Kazakhstan amidst increasing teacher shortages and a growing school-age population, this qualitative study marks a significant empirical effort to thoroughly examine the satisfaction levels of novice science and mathematics teachers with their profession. This study employs individual semi-structured interviews and metaphorical drawings conducted in two regions of Kazakhstan to delve into the experiences and perceptions of novice teachers. The research specifically focuses on how these novice teachers perceive their working conditions, the support they receive, the challenges they face, and the strategies they employ to overcome these challenges. By providing an in-depth understanding of these factors, the study aims to inform policy and practice in improving teacher retention and support mechanisms in Kazakhstan. The insights gained from this research will be instrumental in fostering science and mathematics teacher retention, ultimately supporting the broader goal of strengthening the education system in Kazakhstan.
