Perspectives on proverb use among Kazakhs: Ecological discourse. Kazakh proverbs and sayings are valued and in turn, are subject to modifications based on modern realities. My paper investigates the current use of proverbs by Kazakh speakers based on questionnaires with university students and interviews with University tutors in five cities in Kazakhstan to gauge proverb competency and perspectives on proverb use.
Our theoretical model emphasizes contrasting proverb discourse ecologies (Aasland 2018) which fits this technique’s consideration of both genre transmission and cultural embeddedness. We found proverb competency uneven among students and determined that senior scholars use the same group of proverbs. In the course of the research, a relatively new subgenre in the folklore of the Kazakh language the anti-proverbs was encountered. What does this mean for the ongoing vitality of proverb use among Kazakhs? ([email protected])
